Reflecting on Legacy, Leadership, and Decolonizing Supervision
I recently saw a colleague share about their incredible internship program, and it made me pause and reflect on the Executive Internship Program I built and led through my practice, Thriving Well Holistic Wellness Solutions.
Over the years, I’ve had nine cohorts of interns graduate—each trained and immersed in integrative and evidence-based modalities including EMDR, IFS, Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, TF-CBT, Narrative Therapy, Prepare-Enrich Couples Counseling, Trauma-Informed Yoga, and holistic healing practices.
My interns didn’t just learn from textbooks—they attended conferences with me, met leaders in the field, and even had their NABSW memberships covered so they could experience community and professional identity early in their careers.
I also developed a 9-month Decolonizing Clinical Supervision and Social Work Program, long before entering my doctorate program. Each week, we studied scholars of color, women, and those historically excluded from the “founding fathers” narrative of psychology and social work. Every graduating class left their legacy by creating something new for the practice.
Today, many of my former interns are thriving as licensed professionals, educators, and innovators—and that’s the greatest reward. My goal has always been to transform students, residents, counselors, and supervisees into phenomenal psychotherapists who surpass even my own success.
To my team—thank you for saying “yes” to mentorship. And to the universities and colleagues who’ve trusted me to decolonize and redesign their internship programs, I’m deeply grateful.
